"I've railed against vineyard owners who decide to become winemakers. Most of them should stick to grape farming. But, when you are the owner of the revered Carter Vineyard (yes, the one Ken Wright has been using since the '80s) and you can get your buddy Ken Wright to make 225 cases for you, well, that's another story.
At just 13.5% alcohol, it's not as "big" alcoholically as some modern blockbusters. But, there is puh-lenty of concentration. You can feel the fruit extract on your tongue. Blue fruits dominate, with highlights from the dark red/black spectrum. The texture is dense, yet velvety, with just a hint of fine-grained tannins currently buried under an avalanche of fruit. The flavors expand onthe palate, coasting effortlessly into an endless finish.
This wine really impressed me. The balance is pitch-perfect, and this wine slides down with great pleasure. While the vineyard is known for being structured, and having strong mineral component, here the structure is transparent, and the minerality is liquid and caressing. I give it my highest recommendation."
